Chaz Davies has regained his advantage over his World Superbike rivals with a blistering pace both over a single hot lap and during longer runs on the Racing Ducati at Losail.

With four wins in a row Davies once again looked in irresistible form having topped FP2 with a 1m 57.712s on his final flyer to narrowly shade Jonathan Rea by just 0.047s under the floodlights in Qatar.

During the middle third of the session Davies produced ominous race pace during a long run with consistent mid 1m 58s laps, while setting a new fastest lap midway through the stint with a 1m 57.977s, which none of his rivals could match.

Title rivals Sykes and Rea both had their FP2 sessions truncated by separate technical issues which saw Jordi Torres lead a mid-pack resurgence from Althea BMW.

As the pace cranked up to secure a top ten spot and an automatic berth into Superpole 2, Xavi Fores on the Barni Ducati jumped to third fastest ahead of Pata Yamha's Sylvain Guintoli, while Leon Camier found significant gains on the MV Agusta to go from P14 in FP1 to finish the day fifth overall.

The second Pata Yamaha of Alex Lowes secured sixth ahead of Torres as Nicky Hayden, fresh from MotoGP action at Phillip Island, started his race weekend in eighth for Ten Kate Honda.

Sykes recovered from the technical problem with his factory Kawasaki to take ninth as Lorenzo Savadori on the IodaRacing Aprilia edged out BSB runner-up Leon Haslam - riding for Pedercini Kawasaki - for the final top ten place.

Michael van der Mark spent the majority of the second part of FP2 stuck in the garage which meant he dropped to 12th and will need to go through Superpole 1 along with Davide Giugliano and Alex de Angelis.
