Jonathan Rea displaced Chaz Davies atop the timesheets ahead of qualifying for the eighth round of the World Superbike Championship at Laguna Seca by setting the fastest time in FP3.

The Kawasaki rider turned in the quickest lap of the weekend thus far with a 1m 23.380s lap, seeing off Ducati's Davies with by two tenths of a second, with team-mates Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri making it a top four lock out of the leading teams prior to Superpole.

Eugene Laverty maintained his strong form for Milwaukee Aprilia in fifth place, with team-mate Lorenzo Savadori joining him up the order in sixth position aboard the RSV 4F, ahead of Xavi Fores and Leon Camier.

Though he will need to come through SP1 to make the final stage of Superpole, Michael van der Mark was a confidence boosting ninth quickest - despite a fall at turn two -, ahead of Alex de Angelis and Alex Lowes.
