Stefan Bradl has been ruled out of race one of the Lausitzring World Superbike round due to injury, leaving Davide Giugliano as the sole Red Bull Honda rider.

The German rider sustained a badly bruised left elbow in an unlucky crash during the second free practice session when he slipped off on oil dropped by Alex Lowes’s Pata Yamaha which has suffered an engine blowout.

Bradl was checked over at the Lausitzring medical centre, with x-rays showing no fractures, but needed to pass a medical test in order to be given the green light for FP3 and qualifying. Despite completing both sessions and qualifying 15th on the grid for race one Bradl has been declared unfit to race due to the injury.

The World Superbike organisers have confirmed the German rider will undergo another medical test on Sunday before morning warm-up to decide if he will be fit for race two at his home round.

Red Bull Honda will be solely represented in race one by new recruit Davide Giugliano who is set for his maiden race weekend with the Ten Kate Racing-run squad, having signed a deal with the team until the end of the season.
