Byrne takes race one at Brands.

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne took the first World Superbike victory of the day at Brands Hatch today with a comfortable wheelie across the line some six seconds ahead of second placed Neil Hodgson.

It was a British Superbike Championship event at the front for the entire race with John Reynolds keeping his lead before Shane Byrne took the lead on the sixth lap. Reynolds looked to be still in contention before his slipper clutch gave up and he had to retire.

Back down the field it was Ruben Xaus who was the man on the move making his way to third place before smoke began to billow its way from the back of his bike.

Neil Hodgson then had to find his way past Chris Walker, which he did in a calm and collected manner before making a gap which Walker was to close down in the final laps.

Hodgson now needs to score eight more points than Ruben Xaus to secure his title, Ducati having now secured the manufacturers' title.
