I'd been expecting this announcement ever since the recent Nurburgring crash, when he seemed afterwards to be holding the damaged wrist awkwardly. It turned out later that he'd hurt his elbow instead, but it made me think he probably couldn't go on racing knowing that another blow to the wrist could be crippling.
Sad that like Neil Hodgson he's having to prematurely end his career, but he's media-savvy enough to find other opportunities quickly enough. In his prime he gave British fans a lot to cheer about and I'm sure he'll carry that popularity into whatever he does next. Best wishes to him.
