If they don't take it to the edge then they're not racers and they'd be happy finishing second. Finding the last 10ths that make the difference means riding a very fine line. And with all the electronics if they don't open the throttle earlier and harder than the next guy, they'll be way down the field - they have to use whatever they have, electronics or otherwise, to the full. Crashes will always happen at this level, electronics or not, or it wouldn't be racing!
