Not sure you can say Max wasn't the same after the Checa collision at Valencia... he hadn't won a race up to that point but proceeded to win 3 races thereafter and finish 5th in 2008 standings. It was the Monza crash where things seemed to unravel, though the only SBK he rode after that was the Ten Kate Honda, which is proving a bit of a poisoned chalice at the moment for most people, so perhaps that wasn't a great indicator of form. Either way, it's great to have Max back!
