The backfired trick and the Panigale. With all the mass and restrictor penalties,Ducati went 'supersquare' to achieve swept volume and maxRPM. Correct in theory,but its hurt them both ways. A twin cannot max swept volume like any 4 and the super short stroke robs the bike of the the bottom end initial grunt off the corner.
No doubt the supersquare twin is an amazing piece of tackle on the road. In that realm it has the best of everything. At the cutting edge on the SBK race track it is seriously compromised. Compromise is what the Panigale is at this level and its showing.
