Heard this same old story far too many times in the past.
Some aspects of this story make no sense.
The more WSBK rules favour production bikes, the less chance KTM have of being competitive. That RC8R is certainly NOT "Ready to Race" as their slogan claims.
Seems KTM want to produce a limited production race bike to compete against other manufacturers production bike. Hardly fair.
Also, how do they see Moto2 as a future area of involvement ... it's a spec Honda class. Maybe they didn't get the memo that a rival company supplies the engines in that class?
