Because the trellis-framed 1198 handled. Because the Panigale motor has more power than the 1198 (205bhp v. 192bhp) in race trim. Because the Panigale has the same engine architecture than the 1198. Because it was done before - when the 999 originally had handling issues at the start of it's development the motor was put in the old 996 frame and raced (by Frankie Chilli). It worked and became the 998r & LE. Enough for you? Eh No really ! All of the above means squat the engine is new you don't know how it makes its power. It may be peaky whereas the other engines had a good flat power curve the torque curve may slightly different YOU don't know, little things like that make a big difference not even mentioned the electronics . You are making assumptions which quite frankly you can't !
