WSBK race results (1) - Assen.

Full World Superbike race one results from Assen, round nine of the 2004 world championship...

James Toseland has taken victory after a near race long battle with title rivals Haga, Laconi, Chili and Vermeulen - the Ducati rider only breaking away from his pursuers in the final few laps.

A clever Chili climbed up the order late in the race for second, while Laconi and Haga fought to the flag for third. Vermeulen slipped from the tail of pack in the closing stages and would claim fifth for Ten Kate Honda at the team's home event.

Heading into race two, Toseland now leads the championship by 1-point from team-mate Laconi, with Vermuelen third (8-points from Toseland), Haga fourth (10-points from Toseland) and Chili fifth (35-points fom Toseland).
