Wet free practice in Qatar.

Appalling weather conditions have greeted the Corona Extra World Superbike paddock for the first day of practice and qualifying in Qatar.

Despite the poor weather seventeen riders braved the conditions, with the fastest man on track being Sebastien Gimbert on the Yamaha Motor France machine.

Gimbert edged out former World Superbike Champion, Troy Bayliss on the Xerox Ducati, with Regis Laconi on his new PSG-1 Kawasaki in third spot.

Rookie British rider, Craig Jones brought the turquoise Petronas FP1 home in sixth place – an impressive start to his race weekend.

Fellow Brit Chris Walker was sixteenth on the all new ZX10R, and following in Walkers tyre prints was Ruben Xaus in seventeenth place. It was looking like Xaus would be unfit to race due to a motocross crash during the off season; however he is in Qatar and out on track.

Current World Superbike Champion, Troy Corser opted to sit the session out due to the weather conditions.
