Kevin Curtain started his weekend at the undulating Brands Hatch circuit in Kent by leading first free practice ahead of round eight of the World Supersport championship.
The Yamaha Germany rider starts this weekend only ten points behind championship leader Sebastien Charpentier, who is recovering from injury. Second fastest was Kenan Sofuoglu, team-mate to Charpentier, in the Winston Ten Kate Honda squad. He had a return to form last time out at Brno with a much needed podium finish; he is also a big fan of the Brands Hatch circuit and is hoping to be on the rostrum once again.
Third fastest was British wild-card rider Cal Crutchlow on the Northpoint Ekerold Honda, who was impressively fast all session and led periodically. Crutchlow is currently leading the British Supersport Championship and will be out to show the World Superbike paddock what he is capable of this weekend; he came home ahead of reigning world champion Charpentier who was running in fourth.
Crutchlow's team-mate Leon Camier, who has just returned from riding at the Suzuka Eight Hours, was in seventh place. The remaining two British regulars in the Supersport class, Stuart Easton and Tom Tunstall, were in 24th and 28th respectively.
