2006's runner up Kevin Curtain set the pace during free practice two on board his SSP Yamaha ahead of the opening round of the World Supersport Championship in Qatar.
The fast Australian bettered the provisional pole position time set during first qualifying by Katsuaki Fujiwara. He was 0.104secs under that time and with second qualifying still to come he could be the man to take pole position.
Current World Supersport Champion, Sebastien Charpentier on the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda was running in second place, while his young team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu finished in fourth. Splitting the Hannspree pair was Massimo Roccoli riding for Yamaha Italia.
Broc Parkes completed the Yamaha Honda pattern, coming over the line in fifth place. The first Kawasaki home was in the hands of Fabien Foret in sixth place with his team-mate Pere Riba in tenth.
Katsuaki Fujiwara who claimed provisional pole on Thursday finished second free practice in eleventh. Meanwhile the only British rider in the Supersport class this year, Craig Jones riding for Reve Ekerold Honda, completed the session in twenty first place.
