Max Verstappen, the twelve year old son of former F1 racer Jos 'The Boss' Verstappen, has won the 2010 KF3 WSK Euro Series title at his first attempt after dominating the season .

The young Dutchman, only allowed to compete in international KF3 events due to a rule change regarding age regulations, swept aside more than 60 rivals to claim the title in the fifth and final round of the series at the Italian track of Sarno aboard his works backed CRG chassis.

Having not finished lower than second in each of the first four main finals of the season Verstappen just needed to stay out of trouble at Sarno to clinch the title but with more than 60 drivers vying for just 34 places in the two finals he couldn't afford to be too complacent.

Third in his qualifying group behind Englishman Alex Albon and Frenchman Esteban Ocon, Verstappen wound up eighth fastest in the combined classification but would still be comfortably near the sharp end of the grid for each of his four heats.

Any nerves Verstappen might have been harbouring on one of the most important weekend's of his career to date were not in evidence during the heats as the CRG driver scorched to two wins and a pair of third place finishes, easily enough to clinch pole position for the pre-final.

Albon, the closest driver to Verstappen in the points table, also took two wins but failed to finish his final heat which left him on the eighth row of the pre-final grid.

With an eleventh place finish in the pre-final at the previous round of the series at Genk being Vertsappen's only non-podium finish of any of the eight finals of the year thus far Verstappen was able to equal that finish but still celebrate the championship as Albon, despite a tigering charge up the field, could only finish sixth in a race won by Russian Egor Orudzhev.

With the pressure off and the championship in the bag Verstappen was able to let rip for the first time in the main final, charging through the leaders from eleventh on the grid to finish third behind race winner Loris Spinelli from the Tonykart Junior team and Kosmic Racing's Pedro Hiltbrand.

Albon's first full season in Europe may have yielded second place in the overall standings, comfortably clear of Dutchman Peter Hoevenaars but his last race of the campaign ended on the opening lap, along with France's Pierre Gasly, Danish driver Nicolas Beer and Albon's own Intrepid teammate Nikita Godovanyuk.

Hoevenaars, who failed to score points with a 17th place finish, held on to third overall by a single point from Spinelli with Hiltbrand's late surge helped him to fifth in the championship.

Of the other British drivers, Jake Dennis finished tenth in the standings with Hazz Truelove 25th.

In the team standings, Intrepid took the championship honours thanks largely to the efforts of Albon, Hoevenaars and Orudzhev with Vertsappen's CRG outfit a distant second. Italian squad Morsicani Racing snatched third overall from the Tonykart Junior team with Kosmic completing the top five.
