Visser wins KZ1 final at Siena.

Dutch racer Beitske Visser underlined her potential as a star of the future with a stunning come from behind victory in the KZ2 class of the opening round of the WSK Master Series.
Dutch born teenager Beitske Visser overcame an exclusion from timed qualifying and a 21st place finish in her first heat to win the KZ2 Gearbox final in the opening round of the WSK Master Series at Siena in Italy.

As one of only two non Italian drivers in the 26 strong KZ2 field Visser saw her third place qualifying effort disallowed and was forced to start from the back of the grid for her three heats. Despite her problems in the opener the fast lady put in two stunning drives in her subsequent heats to finish fifth and second.

Those two results meant Visser finished seventh in the intermediate classification but despite her fine form the man to beat at this stage was Italian driver Francesco Celenta.

Fastest in qualifying and the winner of all three heats Calenta also won the pre-final by a mammoth four seconds only to be penalised ten seconds for a jumped start. That penalty pushed him back to fourth behind Marco Zanchetta, Simone Brenna and Marco Pastacaldi but he was still in better shape than Visser who finished second on the road but was also penalised ten seconds, which pushed her back to eighth.

However the penalty was just the start of the downturn in Calenta's fortunes as a mechanical problem inside the first five laps of the 25-lap final robbed him of an almost certain podium finish at the very least.

From the fourth row of the final grid Visser worked her way to the front of the field and narrowly held off Zanchetta for the win. Alberto Cavalieri, Brenna and Frederico Miccoli completed the top five with Calenta classified 25tyh and well out of the points.

Despite his dominance Calenta is only ninth in the overall standings more than 40 points behind joint leaders Zanchetta and Visser with two rounds to go.
