WSS: Bike Service brings Yamaha back to Supersport

20 January 2011

Yamaha will have a full-time representative in the 2011 World Supersport Championship after the Bike Service Racing Team has confirmed it will embark on an entire season.

The reigning Italian Supersport champions made its WSS debut at the Misano round of the 2010 season, its rider Roberto Tamburini causing a stir by qualifying on the front row and finishing his debut race in fifth position.

Encouraging it to enter the final four races of the year, Bike Service will not only return in 2011, but it will expand to a two rider line-up with Tamburini being joined by Luca Marconi, who switches from the 125GP world championship.

Though in a strict privateer capacity, Bike Service's decision to graduate will also see the Yamaha YZF-R6 return to the grid once more.

The manufacturer did not have a single example of the 2009 title-winning bike at the 2010 season opener in Australia.
