Luca Scassa gave his status as a potential World Supersport title contender another boost as he held the top spot during another damp test session at Portimao.

Having set the pace on Thursday afternoon, the Italian - who joins the WSS ranks after a season in the Superbike category - was once again fastest aboard the ParkinGO Yamaha in similarly tricky conditions.

Though he suffered a technical issue just under an hour into the session, Scassa snatched the top spot from Sam Lowes soon afterwards and remained there until the chequered flag.

David Salom slotted into second position aboard the Kawasaki despite suffering a fall, ahead of Lowes - pace setter in two of the five sessions so far this week -, while Broc Parkes and James Ellison held top five spots, less than half a second adrift of Scassa.

Pawel Szopek was an impressive sixth just behind his Bogdanka PTR team-mate and ahead of Gino Rea, while Chaz Davies settled for eighth after also coming off his bike.

Ten Kate Honda duo Florian Marino and Fabien Foret completed the top ten, the younger Frenchman leading his team-mate.

Though rain isn't falling now, cool conditions are causing the circuit to dry slowly.
