WSS: Foret, Ten Kate set impressive PI pace

21 February 2011

Fabien Foret has ended the opening day of World Supersport testing at Phillip Island with the fastest time after setting a formidable pace aboard the Ten Kate Honda.

The Frenchman, returning to the team nine years on from winning the title back in 2002, dominated proceedings from the off, surrendering his position at the top of the timesheets during the session just once to end up almost a second faster than his nearest rival.

Emerging with a 1min 34.117secs, the veteran is already within three tenths of Joan Lascorz's lap record from 2010.

Morning pace setters Kawasaki were second and third, Davis Salom leading Broc Parkes this time, while impressive rookie Sam Lowes shrugged off a crash on the Parkalgar Honda to end up in fourth position.

Yamaha edged its way up the timesheets with Luca Scassa in fifth position, just ahead of Danilo Dell'Omo, who was an excellent sixth on the Suriano Triumph, the Italian outfit showing well on its first day of group testing.

Pawel Szkopek was another to experience a tumble on his way to seventh quickest, though his Bogdanka PTR team-mate James Ellison did not venture out in the afternoon following having fallen in the morning session.

Roberto Tamburini on the Bike Service Yamaha and Florian Marino followed in eighth and ninth, while Massimo Roccoli squeezed the Lorenzini Kawasaki into the top ten in tenth position.

Further back, Chaz Davies was 11th fastest on the second of the ParkinGO Yamahas, while Gino Rea was out-paced by new Step Racing team-mate Vladimir Ivanov in 13th position.
