WSS: Foret holds onto first as test ends

Fabien Foret and Broc Parkes set the pace in Australia as attention turns to the opening round of the World Supersport season at Phillip Island.
Fabien Foret will assume the mantle of initial title favourite heading into the opening round of the 2011 World Supersport Championship after clinging on to the fastest time during testing at Phillip Island.

The Frenchman's S3 effort was enough to keep him at the head of the timesheets by the end of play, though his margin over second place man Broc Parkes was down to less than a tenth.

The local favourite set the pace in session four to join Foret in breaching the 1min 34secs marker and getting close to Kawasaki predecessor Joan Lascorz's fastest lap time, but would fall just short of taking the best lap overall.

Despite suffering a crash, David Salom was another to improve in S4 as he sat two tenths adrift in third position overall, while Florian Marino maintained fourth on the Ten Kate Honda despite only managing 11th best in the afternoon.

Sam Lowes crept his way up to fifth position on the Parkalgar machine, ahead of Yamaha pair Roberto Tamburini and Luca Scassa, the Bike Service man leading the semi-official ParkinGO machine, while Gino Rea, Robbin Harms and Danilo Dell'Omo would be ranked eighth, ninth and tenth at the end of the two day test.

Elsewhere, Chaz Davies was 11th best on the second BE1-prepared YZF-R6, marginally ahead of countryman James Ellison, who was another to take a tumble in the session.

In all, 26 riders participated in the test, with Vittorio Iannuzzo joining proceedings for the first time aboard the Lorenzini Kawasaki in session four having sat out of the opening three tests.
