WSS: Ellison goes under knife ahead of race

The Bogdanka PTR rider has surgery to ease some of the pain in his knee ahead of the opening round of the championship in Australia.
James Ellison has gone under the knife just two days before the start of the 2011 World Supersport season to correct an injury in his knee, it has been confirmed.

The multiple British Superbike race winner, who switches to WSS with Bogdanka PTR Honda this season, damaged a tendon in the knee during on the opening day of testing at Phillip Island.

Though he returned to participate in day two of the test, Ellison opted to undergo key-hole surgery on his knee to relieve some of the tension in his knee and allow more movement.

Described by the team as 'zero-risk', while Ellison freely admits he may not be at full strength come Sunday's race, he is insists this is the best option for him to compete properly.

“It was a good test because I was fastest in the wet and then very consistent in the dry on the second day so I'm looking forward to a good race on Sunday,” Ellison, speaking ahead of the surgery, said. “Unfortunately I crashed on the first day and damaged a tendon in my left knee.

“It was a bit difficult to move around on the bike so I will have a quick key-hole surgery tomorrow [Wednesday] morning to allow more movement and less pain. I might not be at full fitness on Sunday but will be fit enough to have a good race and will do my best.”

Despite the injury complaint, Ellison ended the two-day test 12th fastest, while Pawel Szkopek was in 16th.

Keyhole surgery to a damaged tendon in his knee is zero risk? That's a new on on me!.... Good luck James, I really hope it works out for you.
