Kawasaki sent out a warning signal to Ten Kate Honda that it will challenge Fabien Foret's World Supersport provisional pole position at Phillip Island after Broc Parkes and David Salom topped FP2.
The pair, headed by local man Parkes, were comfortably up on Foret by four and two tenths respectively, though the Australian was still half a second down on the Frenchman's best from Q1.
Sam Lowes continued to shadow the top three in fourth position aboard the Parkalgar Honda, ahead of countrymen Chaz Davies and Gino Rea, the pair shrugging off falls late on to cling onto top six places.
Luca Scassa was seventh best on the second of the ParkinGO Yamahas, while Florian Marino, Roberto Tamburini and Robbin Harms rounded out the top ten.
Elsewhere, James Ellison was 13th fastest on the Bogdanka PTR Honda, but there was less joy for team-mate Pawel Szkopek, who was forced to take a trip to the medical centre following a fall early on in the session.
