WSS: Scassa, BE1 celebrate maiden Supersport win

Luca Scassa and BE1 Racing enjoy their first win at Phillip Island as Yamaha returns to World Supersport in style.
Luca Scassa's decision to follow a Supersport career path has paid early dividends after he swept to an impressive victory on his category debut at Phillip Island,

A remarkable win for several reasons, Scassa's determined last gasp effort to snatch the lead from Sam Lowes on the home straight was enough to not only his first victory at Supersport level, but also for the BE1/ParkinGO Racing team

Success for Yamaha on its return to full-time WSS racing, Scassa hailed the swift progress the team has made since making the unexpected switch from Triumph to Yamaha machinery just days before pre-season testing began in January.

“I couldn't ask more for this first round with the Yamaha ParkinGO team. This achievement is born from a great work done by the team since the Portimao tests. We managed to keep concentrate and to use every single minute to learn about the bike and we got a good response.

“The round was really great and challenging. During the last lap Lowes and Parkes overtook me but I knew I was able to go faster at the last curve and so I did, anticipating them in a last-breath finish.”

Though a fairly experienced Superstock and Superbike rider, this is the first time Scassa – who raced with Supersonic Ducati in 2010 - has competed at Supersport level.
