WSS: Ellison overcomes injury for solid sixth

James Ellison vows to be fit in time for Donington Park after seeing his Phillip Island hopes hampered by a knee injury.
James Ellison got his 2011 World Supersport campaign off to a good start at Phillip Island after battling through injury to finish in sixth position.

The former British Superbike runner-up was making his debut for the Bogdanka PTR team in Australia, but was forced to contend with a knee injury following a crash in testing a week earlier that necessitated keyhole surgery.

Though an uncomplicated procedure, Ellison admits he struggled with his fitness during the 21-lap race, so was pleased to come away with useful points in an otherwise quiet sixth place.

“Considering what we've came through in Australia this week I'm quite happy with sixth. Because of the injury I couldn't steer the bike with my legs and had to work harder with my shoulders - and they got quite tired in the end.

“I'm a bit disappointed about that because my training and fitness are very important to me and are normally my strong points - but we have a month off now before our home race and I'll be ready for Donington.”

Ellison is to me what Colin Edwards is to others! I know there are younger and faster guys coming through, but I really want him to do well. Based on Sundays race WSS will be close this year, and he did benefit from some others misfortune to get his sixth. If James can get podiums this year I think it'll mean an awful lot. Best of luck, fella!

And what have you ever achieved then Cristiano De Grammini??.. It's easy to for you with your keyboard having a go. Do you have any idea what level these guys are riding at? 6th is a strong finish without having your knee operated on days before!!!
