Gino Rea says he is determined to race at his home World Supersport event at Donington Park, despite conceding his thumb injury will not be healed in time.
Rea tore the tendons in his thumb after crashing during practice for the opening round at Phillip Island, the Briton soldiering on to start the race but ultimately failing to finish.
Raising concerns at the time that the injury would not be healed in time for the second event at Donington Park, Rea insists he will race on regardless in an effort to repeat the podium he achieved on home soil at Silverstone in 2010.
“My thumb will not be healed in time for Donington but I will definitely go there to race,” the Step Racing Honda rider said. “Donington is one of my home rounds and although I haven't rode there that much, I'm really looking forward to racing in my home country in front of a home crowd.
“I hope we can progress things and give the spectators something to cheer about. My first podium came last year at Silverstone so I'd love to get on the box again. I will be designing some t-shirts this week, I might give a few away during the pit lane walk like last year at Silverstone!”
