Ellison fully fit for Donington appearance

James Ellison is hoping his good record at Donington Park will aid his World Supersport chances this weekend.
James Ellison says he will be back to his best when he lines up on the grid for his home round of the World Supersport Championship at Donington Park after recovering from a knee injury.

The Briton underwent minor surgery on the knee prior to the opening round of the season, Ellison soldiering on to an eventual sixth place aboard the Bogdanka PTR Honda in the Phillip Island race.

However, having undergone a private test session at Mallory Park recently, Ellison is happy to report that his condition has improved significantly between races.

"We went to Mallory Park to test last Wednesday and did good lap times, so I am happy to race. I should be fine for Donington after my knee injury and surgery in Australia.

“I have been doing a lot of rehab work on my knee, building up the small muscles that surround the knee joint rather than working the big muscles that move the leg.

“It was hard to move around on the bike at Phillip Island just because I could only use my upper body to steer. Donington is physical but I am on better condition than I was in Australia and I'm really looking forward to this weekend in Britain."

Ellison last raced at Donington Park in 2009 as a World Superbike wild-card for Airwaves Yamaha, the 30-year-old finishing with a best of eighth in race two. He also raced on the international stage in 2008 with Hydrex Honda, scoring a fastest lap on the way to fourth.

Donington Park was also the scene for his maiden British Superbike victory in 2009.

I remember some of the unkind things that were said about James when he rode in GPs. A lot of people are eating those words now I reckon. The man is an awesome rider with an indomitable spirit. Give it some beans James. I for one will be cheering you all the way to the podium that you so richly deserve.
