Pole man Lowes expecting to go faster

Sam Lowes is confident he has pace in hand as he gets ready to start from a World Supersport pole position for the first time.
Sam Lowes believes he is in a strong position to fight for his first World Supersport Championship victory after retaining his position at the front of the field in Q2 at Misano.

Having taken provisional pole position on the Friday, Lowes didn't even need to venture onto circuit to have the result confirmed thanks to the poor weather conditions that prevented any other rider from improving their lap times.

However, Lowes insists he had already made a breakthrough during FP2, pointing out that only Broc Parkes was faster than him despite the fact he was circulating on worn tyres. With this in mind, Lowes thinks he has more than seven tenths in hand heading into the races.

"Today has been mega," the Parkalgar Honda rider said. "We found a lot this morning with the set -up of my Parkalgar Honda and only Broc Parkes was able to match my time, but I was on a well-used tyre. I think I could have gone 0.750secs faster with the improvement we found - we tried a new shock mid-session and instantly it was better.

“I can't wait for tomorrow, my bike's awesome. Even if it's wet for the race I can ride in the wet - I am very confident to be fighting for the win here, although I would prefer it to be dry."

Lowes's first pole position at WSS level comes two weeks after his twin brother Alex scored a maiden pole position for Kawasaki in the British Superbike Championship.

I think he could have got pole wet or dry, for me Sam is the news of 2011, he's fast, aggressive and doesn't let up. I reckon the Yamaha is a faster bike this season but he's still plonked the Honda on pole. Looking for a win Sam!
