Davies loses series lead after clutch problems

Chaz Davies has fallen behind Broc Parkes in the World Supersport standings, but was able to put ten points between himself and his other key rival, Luca Scassa.
Chaz Davies says a clutch problem prevented him from challenging for victory during the fifth round of the 2011 World Supersport Championship at Misano, the Welshman duly slipping behind Broc Parkes in the standings.

Davies had been handed a prime opportunity to stretch away in the overall reckoning after ParkinGO Yamaha team-mate Luca Scassa – with whom he shared the championship lead heading to Misano - was handed a one-round ban for breaching sporting regulations.

However, while Davies qualified second and led early on, a clutch issue would see him run at the first corner on lap five, dropping him into the chasing pack. From here, he couldn't recover and would cross the line a fairly distant sixth.

With Parkes winning the race, the Australian has leapfrogged Davies at the top of the standings, though only five points continue to separate them.

“It's a shame we had a clutch problem on the bike as I thought this weekend we could have fought for the win. I had a good start and place myself first but due to the problem I was doing mistakes, losing positions and not being able to fight back.

“I know we are only five points behind now in the championship and we have still a few races to go, but sixth position gives me a few good points. Now I have to think about the race in Aragon next week and keep working.”

In Scassa's absence, his ParkinGO Yamaha team-mate Giuliano Rovelli looked set to take his position, but while he participated in practice and qualifying, he didn't line up for the Supersport race.
