Parkes, Salom quickest again for Kawasaki

18 June 2011

Kawasaki continues to exert its dominance over the World Supersport Championship field following second free practice at Motorland Aragon, with Broc Parkes once again leading team-mate David Salom.

Though Parkes, who heads into this afternoon's final qualifying session having acquired provisional pole position on Friday, suffered a fall during the closing stages of the FP2 session – his second of the weekend -, his 2mins 02.311secs is still the quickest of the weekend thus far.

Local favourite Salom ran him close, just over a hundredth adrift, while Sam Lowes offered Kawasaki its strongest competition in third, the Parkalgar Honda man just two tenths off the lead.

Even so, the trio remained well ahead of the chasing pack, with James Ellison putting in a strong performance to go fourth with his best lap time of the weekend thus far, ahead of fellow Britons Chaz Davies and Gino Rea.

Massimo Roccoli proved the ZX-6Rs pace around the lengthy Spanish circuit with a run to the seventh best time, ahead of Luca Scassa, the Yamaha rider managing just five laps after taking a spill himself.

Fabien Foret and Roberto Tamburini completed the top ten positions, edging out a plethora of Hondas piloted by Florian Marino, Robbin Harms, Pawel Szkopek, Vladimir Ivanov, Miguel Praia, Ondrej Jezek and Alexander Lundh.
