Lowes fastest and Brits dominate FP2

Sam Lowes continues to dominate at the Nurburgring, despite suffering two crashes and a technical problem.
The four-strong British contingent in the 2011 World Supersport Championship came out fighting in second free practice at the Nurburgring by locking out the leading positions.

Led by Sam Lowes, the Parkalgar Honda rider was again the only rider to crack the 2mins mark with a time that was marginally faster than the one that took him to provisional pole position yesterday.

Even so, it wasn't a perfect session for Lowes as he suffered two crashes in the session, plus a technical problem on the CBR600RR.

Brno race winner Gino Rea held the top spot until the closing stages, but was forced to settle for second eventually, the Step Racing Honda rider followed closely by countrymen Chaz Davies and James Ellison, the latter posting one of his most convincing performances of the season so far.

A dramatic session that saw several incidents, including an engine blow for Bastien Chesaux, one that necessitated a red flag period of almost 30 minutes and contributed to the fall of Mitchell Pirotta at the final bend, there were also tumbles for Marc Moser, Robbin Harms, Fabien Foret and Florian Marino, as well as Lowes.

Behind the British quartet, Luca Scassa was fifth best on the second Yamaha, ahead of the recovered Foret, Massimo Roccoli, David Salom, Marino and Harms.
