Foret scores surprise Nurburgring pole

Fabien Foret denies a British 1-2-3-4 by claiming his second pole position of the season at the Nurburgring.
Fabien Foret took a surprise second World Supersport pole position of the season after making substantial gains in the closing stages of final qualifying at the Nurburgring.

An all-British front row looked to be in the offing as the four-strong contingent diced over the top spot, only for Foret – who had been languishing towards the bottom end of the top ten for much of the session – jumped ahead with a 1min 59.258secs lap.

It was enough to depose long-time front runner Gino Rea from the top spot, the Step Racing Honda rider also demoted to third by the end of the session thanks to a similarly strong lap by championship leader Chaz Davies.

Sam Lowes completes the front row, though the Parkalgar Honda rider, who had topped each session ahead of final qualifying, was notable for not improving on the lap time that saw him secure provisional pole position, while he would also suffer a third crash of the day towards the closing stages.

Though bumped off the front row, James Ellison can be satisfied with his best qualifying performance of the season in fifth position, ahead of Massimo Roccoli, the Lorenzini Kawasaki rider doing a fine job of out-qualifying the factory riders, David Salom and Broc Parkes eighth and ninth respectively.
