Kawasaki opened up the official World Supersport Championship test at Phillip Island with a 1-2 result as Fabien Foret and Kenan Sofuoglu paced Monday's AM session.
Former champion Foret, who finished third in the 2011 standings with Ten Kate Honda, returns to the Kawasaki fold in 2012 with the Czech-based Intermoto Step team, itself switching from CBR600RR to ZX-6R machinery this year.
Setting a best of 1min 35.140secs in the final stages of the 90 minute session, Foret nudged out 2007 and 2010 champion Sofuoglu, who returns to WSS competition with the official Kawasaki DeltaFin team after a season in the Moto2 World Championship.
Local favourite Broc Parkes was third fastest on the sole Ten Kate Honda entry, ahead of the impressive Balazs Nemeth on the Team Toth Honda and Lukas Pesek, the former 125GP race winner emerging as the best of the rookie contingent in fifth with fellow newcomers ProRace Honda.
Former Moto2 rival Jules Cluzel was sixth fastest for PTR Honda, ahead of Suriano Triumph duo Vittorio Iannuzzo and Alex Baldolini, while Sam Lowes and Massimo Roccoli completed the top ten for Bogdanka PTR Honda and Bike Service WTR Yamaha respectively.
Elsewhere, Sheridan Morais was 17th on the second DeltaFin Kawasaki, while Martin Jessopp made his WSS bow with the 19th best time on the Riders PTR Honda.
