Sylvain Barrier maintained his presence at the top of the Superstock 1000 timesheets at Assen during second free practice, despite the onset of rain at the Dutch venue.

The Frenchman, who heads the overall standings after winning the opening round at Imola, was quickest in the dry Q1 and has a strong chance of turning that into pole position should conditions at Assen remain poor throughout the day.

Indeed, such was the rain, Barrier's best time of 2mins 12.705secs were more than half a minute slower than he was managing in the dry aboard the BMW Italia GoldBet S1000RR.
