Lowes to start from Assen pole

Sam Lowes claims his third career World Supersport pole position after his best time in Q1 proves enough to take overall honours.
Sam Lowes will start on pole position for the third round of the 2012 World Supersport Championship after his provisional effort was good enough to stand throughout a chilly Q2.

The British rider, who is still chasing his first WSS win since making his full-time debut at the start of the 2011 season, set a marker of 1min 38.900secs in Q1, a lap that wouldn't be bettered during the entirety of the Q2 session.

Similarly, Broc Parkes's Q1 lap was good enough to seal a spot on the front row alongside Lowes, though the Australian will be encouraged to have been quickest of all during Q2.

Making it a Honda 1-2-3, Jules Cluzel lowered his best time in Q2, but remains third on the grid, while Kenan Sofuoglu was the first make a move up the order having displaced Kawasaki counterpart and championship leader Fabien Foret for fourth.

Behind them, Imre Toth will start from a career-best sixth aboard his eponymous Honda, the Hungarian racer holding off Sheridan Morais, Vladimir Leonov and Massimo Roccoli, while South African PTR rider Mathew Scholtz maintained his top ten position from Q1 in tenth.

Elsewhere, ex-Moto2 rider Valentin Debise will make his WSS debut from a solid 11th position, while three-time WSBK race winner Lorenzo Lanzi starts down in 21st position having been unable to translate his impressive wet weather pace during FP2 into qualifying.
