Sylvain Barrier will take an injured shoulder to the front of the grid for the third round of the 2012 FIM Superstock 1000 Championship at Monza after maintaining pole position in Q2.

Barrier's participation in the Monza race had been in doubt after a nasty fall during Q1 left him with a dislocated shoulder, but the Frenchman was able to make it out onto the track for a few laps of the wet Q2 session.

Crucially, the poor conditions of Q2 meant his provisional pole-winning time from Q1, just minutes before his accident, would continue to stand, earning him an outright pole position for the BMW Italia GoldBet team.

It remains to be seen whether the shoulder will hamper his quest to add to his Imola and Assen triumphs, not least because he will have threatening company on the front row in the form of Italian trio Lorenzo Savadori, Lorenzo Baroni and Eddi La Marra.

Bryan Staring heads up the second row on the Pedercini Kawasaki, just ahead of ZX-10R counterparts Christoffer Bergman (BWG) and Matthieu Lussiana (ASPI) in fifth, sixth and eighth respectively, with Alpha BMW's Markus Reiterberger preventing a complete 'team green' sweep in seventh.

Marco Bussolotti will start ninth on the ageing SK Energy Ducati 1098R, ahead of Jeremy Guarnoni on the second Pedercini Kawasaki, Fabio Massei on the sole Ten Kate Jnr Honda and MRS Kawasaki's Loris Baz, the Frenchman punished for his lowly Q1 time in 12th.
