Lowes loses ground with Misano tumble

Sam Lowes crashes out of a probable podium at Misano to drop 30 points behind Kenan Sofuoglu in the overall World Supersport standings.
Sam Lowes' World Supersport Championship dreams have been dealt a set-back after a comfortable podium finish at Misano was scuppered by a costly accident.

The Englishman was bidding for a second consecutive victory after breaking his long-awaited duck last time out at Donington Park, but despite qualifying on pole position, a necessity to adjust his clutch after the race start caused him to lose ground to the leaders early on.

Stabilising in third position, Lowes was looking comfortable before he hit the deck on lap 12. Though he remounted and continued to the chequered flag, he would cross the line in 18th place and out of the points.

The error means he has lost crucial ground to Kenan Sofuoglu in the overall standings, the PTR Bogdanka Honda rider now 30 points behind the more consistent Turk.

"I had a good start and took the lead but I had to adjust my clutch straight away which wasn't easy. After five or six laps I got settled into a rhythm and started to make my way up to third position.

"After the crash I had to turn the electronics off because of a damaged sensor. The right foot peg was damaged and so was the brake lever so it was really difficult but I got back up and continued, bringing the bike home in the end."

cmon man, jesus christ, you need to be more consistent if you want to have a chance at winning this championship. Some days you need to settle for points rather than go all out for the win. But its hopefully a very good lesson learnt for the future. Young Stoner had a penchant for throwing it into the scenery before he was a world champ...
