Broc Parkes has set an impressive benchmark for his World Supersport rivals to consider during first free practice at Motorland Aragon, the Australian half a second faster than his closest rival.

The Australian, who took pole position aboard a Kawasaki last season and looked on course for a victory before crashing out late on, surged to the top of the timesheets with his final effort to stop the clocks at 2mins 02.508secs.

Already just half a second off his own lap record, Ten Kate Honda rider Parkes commanded an identical margin over long-time pace setter Sam Lowes on the sister Bogdanka PTR Honda CBR600RR, who in turn was a clear five tenths up on third place man Fabien Foret.

Heading up the Kawasaki charge, Foret made the most of his experience around the Spanish circuit having tested there last week to go third quickest, ahead of ZX-6R counterparts Sheridan Morais and series leader Kenan Sofuoglu.

Jules Cluzel, who is now Sofuoglu's nearest challenger in the WSS standings, was sixth quickest, ahead of privateer Honda trio Imre Toth, Roberto Tamburini, Mathew Scholtz and Ronan Quarmby.
