Sam Lowes has put himself six tenths clear in the fight for World Supersport pole position at Motorland Aragon after dominating provisional qualifying around the Spanish circuit.

The British rider, who is keen to recover ground at this weekend's event after suffering a costly crash last time out at Misano, struck to the front with 15mins of the session remaining and furthered his advantage to end with 2min 03.067secs.

However, though his lap was good enough to put a sizeable six tenths between himself and PTR Honda counterpart Jules Cluzel, it was still half a second down on Broc Parkes's leading FP1 effort. The Australian might have fancied his chances of beating Lowes, but an early tumble at turn seven cost him track time and he could only recover to fourth place on his return to the circuit.

Fabien Foret joins Lowes, Cluzel and Parkes on the provisional front row in third position, edging out Sheridan Morais, who was another to suffer a fall during the session. Even so, the South African fared better than his DetaFin Kawasaki team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu, the Turk spending much of the session in the pit lane, leaving him down in 17th.

Roberto Tamburini was sixth quickest on the Lorini Honda, while RivaMoto Yamaha's Jed Metcher and GoEleven Kawasaki's Joshua Day will take great heart with their impressive run to seventh and eighth quickest on their privateer machines.

Fresh from his run to the podium at Misano, Suriano Triumph's Alex Baldolini was ninth fastest, while former GP star Gabor Talmacsi showed he is getting to grips with WSS competition as he crept into the top ten on the ProRace Honda.
