BMW are in position to extend its advantage in the FIM Superstock 1000 Championship after locking out the provisional top three positions in qualifying at Motorland Aragon.

Fresh from his third win in four races, series leader Sylvain Barrier was just under a tenth quicker than his BMW Italia GoldBet team-mate Lorenzo Baroni, while Markus Reiterberger furthered the German manufacturer's cause with a run to provisional front row in third.

MRS Kawasaki's Jeremy Guarnoni broke the BMW deadlock in fourth, just holding off fellow ZX-10R rider Bryan Staring, while Ten Kate Junior rider Fabio Massei led Honda's meagre two-strong contingent in sixth place

There was continued frustration for Ducati, however, as it struggles to make the new 1199 Panigale work around the Spanish circuit, with Lorenzo Savadori leading the Italian marque's challenge in a modest seventh place, just ahead of Kev Coghlan on the ageing 1098R version of the machine.

Monza podium winner Christoffer Bergman headed up the third row on his BWG Kawasaki despite a crash, ahead of title contender Eddi La Marra on the second of the Barni Panigales.
