Jeremy Guarnoni has taken provisional pole position for the sixth FIM Superstock 1000 Championship round at Brno after just doing enough to deny countryman Sylvain Barrier.

Barrier came into the session as a strong favourite for pole position after proving almost one second faster than any other rival during FP1, but with his best of 2mins 04.071secs falling just over a tenth short of his practice pace, Guarnoni took advantage.

Even so, it remains close between the two Frenchmen, with just four thousandths of a second splitting the MRS Kawasaki man from the BMW Italia rider.

Half a second further back, local favourite Ondrej Jezek was an impressive third on the ageing Ducati 1098R, once again well ahead of the new 1199 Panigales, which could only manage eighth and tenth fastest in the hands of Lorenzo Savadori and Eddi La Marra.

Monza podium winner Christoffer Bergman rounded off the provisional front row, ahead of Aragon race winner Bryan Staring, Markus Reiterberger and Matthieu Lussiana.

Outside the top ten, Kev Coghlan was 12th fastest on the DMC Panigale, while series debutant Robbie Brown slipped to 24th after suffering a fall from his Ducati entrant.
