Sofuoglu takes close Brno pole

Kenan Sofuoglu heads Brno WSS qualifying top three covered by less than 0.1s.
Kenan Sofuoglu clinched a close World Supersport pole position during round eight at Brno on Saturday.

The Kawasaki Lorenzini rider, who leads the championship despite being disqualified at Imola and penalised at Aragon, got the better of PTR Honda's Jules Cluzel by just 0.002s.

Kawasaki Intermoto Step Racing Fabien Foret completed a top three covered by a mere 0.080s, with Ten Kate Honda's Broc Parkes fourth and 0.162 seconds down on Sofuoglu.

The first rider off the second row for tomorrow's race will be championship challenger Sam Lowes (Bogdanka PTR Honda), with the Power Team by Suriano Triumph of Vittorio Iannuzzo in sixth place.

Sofuoglu will start the race with a 16 point lead over fellow double 2012 race winner Lowes.

Kenan Sofuoglu: “Today was not too bad and normally I do not fight for pole position, I can accept it if I am on the front row. But I think the bike was very good and the set-up was good and I tried to make a strong lap time, which brought me pole. The most important thing is that I am ready for the race, I have good race pace and hopefully I can fight for the win on raceday. I am very sorry about what happened in Aragon but I do not think I put anyone in a dangerous position. When I moved my head to signal Fabien I think it looks like a very aggressive manoeuvre when you see it on TV. I do not have any problem with Fabien and I shook hands with him after the race. Of course I am sorry that it happened. I want to put this all behind me this weekend to focus on a good result, try to win the race and get some points back.”
