Kenan Sofuoglu takes a comfortable advantage into qualifying for the tenth round of the 2012 World Supersport Championship after topping the provisional session by three tenths of a second.

The championship leader has maintained a low profile since action got underway with a test around the Moscow Raceway earlier this week, but moved to the front in Q1 to put his Lorenzini Kawasaki onto provisional pole position.

His cause was aided by Sam Lowes eliminating himself from the session after just four laps, the Bogdanka PTR Honda rider coming down at turn two. Nonetheless, despite the lack of mileage, Lowes was still second fastest, just three tenths adrift of Sofuoglu's top time and two tenths clear of Broc Parkes in third.

Lowes wasn't the only rider to suffer a fall during the session, with Ronan Quarmby, wild-card Sergei Krapukhin and newcomer Robin Mulhauser all coming down, the latter prompting a red flag period to clear his RivaMoto Yamaha.

Despite some drops of rain with 20mins to go, Jules Cluzel and local favourite Vladimir Leonov went faster in the closing stages to end the day in fourth and fifth, ahead of ex-125GP champion Gabor Talmacsi and Fabien Foret, the outside title challenger rising from a lowly 18th in FP1 to go seventh.

Sheridan Morais led ex-Moto2 riders Valentin Debise and Alex Baldolini to complete the top ten, edging out Romain Lanusse and Andrea Antonelli.

Of the remaining British contingent, Martin Jessopp was 25th fastest and Dan Linfoot 26th.
