Sam Lowes has taken provisional pole position for the 11th round of the World Supersport Championship at the Nurburgring after striking to the front in the closing stages of the session.
The Briton came into Q1 having set the pace in first free practice, but while Jules Cluzel and Fabien Foret would both join him in breaking the 2mins marker, Lowes's 1min 59.210secs effort would prove enough to keep the French pair at bay.
Despite missing out on the top spot, second marks a strong opening for Cluzel having never ridden the Nurburgring before today, while Foret had the honour of being the highest-placed Kawasaki rider.
Behind them, Broc Parkes and championship leader Kenan Sofuoglu completed a familiar looking top five, while Moscow podium winner Vladimir Leonov made impressive gains to leap to sixth having been classified outside the top twenty after FP1.
Imre Toth was another to show strongly on his eponymous Honda with his run to a provisional seventh place, ahead Lorini Honda's Roberto Tamburini, wild-card Yamaha rider David Linortner and Sheridan Morais on the second of the factory-backed Kawasaki ZX-6Rs.
Behind them, Ronan Quarmby slipped from fourth to 12th between sessions, while Massimo Roccoli made steady gains on the PATA by Martini Yamaha in 13th place. Of the remaining British riders, Dan Linfoot was an encouraging 15th fastest, while Martin Jessopp was 27th quickest.
