Sylvain Barrier has taken pole position for the final round of the FIM Superstock 1000 Championship at Magny-Cours, but he will have title rival Eddi La Marra starting directly alongside him as they prepare to go head-to-head for the crown.

As it stands, Barrier carries a slender three point lead into the final race, but was considered a clear favourite to wrap up the title having dominated free practice and provisional qualifying leading into Q2. La Marra, on the other hand, has spent much of the weekend languishing in the lower half of the top ten.

However, while Barrier would go on to further his claim to the title by securing pole position with a best lap of 1min 41.079secs, he will have La Marra for company on the front row after the Barni Ducati rider made a big improvement in Q2 to qualify in second place.

They will share the front row with Jeremy Guarnoni and Bryan Staring, who is also mathematically capable of winning the title, albeit 23 points adrift of Barrier.

Wild-card Greg Gildenhuys shrugged off the crash to qualify fifth aboard the second of the BMW Italia machines, ahead of Lorenzo Savadori, Markus Reiterberger and Christoffer Bergman.
