Though the 2012 World Supersport Championship hasn't quite lived up to his high expectations, Sam Lowes at least had the satisfaction of snatching third overall from Fabien Foret in the final round of the season at Magny-Cours.

A convincing performance to conclude an otherwise up-and-down season, the Bogdanka PTR rider shrugged off a poor start to battle his way back into contention, claiming the second place he needed to overhaul Foret for third overall.

A minor boost for the Briton at the end of a year that saw him secure his first WSS victories, but fail to mount a convincing title challenge, Lowes was satisfied with his competitive conclusion.

"The conditions were not perfect but I knew we had a good chance this weekend because I was quietly working for the race. We've been a little bit unlucky with the weather today as I had a really good pace in the dry, but the team did an awesome job and again gave me a great bike for the wet today.

"I'm very happy to get second in the race and third in the championship. Thanks to the team, as the whole squad worked fantastic all year long. We didn't quite do the job we wanted to do this year but we've managed to get third in the championship and I'm happy with that."
