Niccolo Canepa will return to the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup in 2013 after agreeing terms to join Eddi La Marra at Barni Racing Ducati.
The former MotoGP rider spent the 2012 season competing in the World Superbike Championship with Red Devils Roma Ducati, though his campaign was halted with two rounds to go when he broke his leg in an accident at the Nurburgring.
With Red Devils Roma going on to replace him with Michel Fabrizio, Canepa will head back to Superstock competition – where he raced in 2011 – with Barni Racing. Riding a Ducati 1199 Panigale, he will be paired with 2012 runner-up La Marra for an assault at the title.
"I am pleased to remain in Ducati, because after many years I have close links with the Borgo Panigale manufacturer", he said. "I can't wait for this new adventure to begin and get back on a bike again after my crash in Germany. A big thanks to team manager Marco Barnabò, all of his staff and my managers for believing in me. I'm sure that we'll get some good results.”
Having been tipped to step up to the World Superbike class in 2013 as a customer Ducati team, Barni Racing has confirmed it will remain in Superstock competition for the time being before re-evaluating ahead of 2014.
