World Supersport rookie Michael van der Mark lived up to his eye-catching pre-season form as the young Dutchman wrapped up official testing at Phillip Island in fourth position overall.
Van der Mark's impressive performance at the Australian circuit bodes well for this weekend's opening round of the championship and the Pata Honda rider is, unsurprisingly, in buoyant mood.
His fastest lap of 1m 33.874s puts him firmly in touch with the top three at the test headed by Britain's Sam Lowes on the Yakhnich Yamaha, who posted the fastest time in 1m 33.076s.
Van der Mark, who makes his World Supersport Championship debut this year after winning the European Superstock 600 title in 2012 for the Ten Kate Honda junior team, said: “I'm really happy after this test and looking forward to the weekend.
“We've worked hard on the race set-up today and did two complete race simulations and we found a good pace.
“More importantly we found a good solution to keep the tyre working at the end of the race,” he added.
“OK, it was still destroyed but the times were quite good. In the last 15 minutes today we tried to do a qualifying lap and managed a good time.
“I'm happy with fourth place and we will try to maintain this performance through the first round.”
His new team-mate, Lorenzo Zanetti – also a new recruit to the World Supersport series in 2103 – was 16th fastest in the combined times with a best lap in 1m 34.870s.
