Sylvain Barrier returned his name to the top of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup timesheets after pacing the first dry session of the weekend in FP2.
The only rider to crack the 1min 40secs marker, BMW GoldBet rider Barrier was comfortably ahead of the chasing opposition, led by his rival for the title in 2012, Eddi La Marra.
Having been quickest in the wet provisional qualifying, Niccolo Canepa was third fastest behind his Barni Ducati team-mate, but ahead of a quartet of Kawasakis in Leandro Mercado, Lorenzo Savadori, Romain Lanusse and Jeremy Guarnoni.
On his first visit to Assen, Greg Gildenhuys was eighth fastest, with Ondrej Jezek and Marco Bussolotti rounding out the top ten.
