Eddi La Marra will start the second round of the 2013 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup from pole position after producing a record-breaking lap to edge out team-mate Niccolo Canepa at Assen.

The Italian pair tussled for the top spot for much of the session before La Marra went ahead with a time of 1min 38.571secs, undercutting Sylvain Barrier's existing lap record around the Dutch circuit.

Canepa ran his Barni Ducati team-mate close to miss pole by 0.015secs, though the Italian was comfortably faster than reigning champion Barrier on the GoldBet-backed BMW S1000RR.

Leandro Mercado heads up row two on the quickest of the Kawasakis in fourth position, ahead of Romain Lanusse on the MRS-prepared ZX-10R and Ondrej Jezek aboard the SK Energy Ducati Panigale, while Lorenzo Savadori, Greg Gildenuys, Jeremy Guarnoni and Christoffer Bergman complete the top ten.
