FIM Superstock 1000 Cup series leader Sylvain Barrier topped the opening qualifying times on his GoldBet BMW S1000-RR HP4 on a damp track at Monza in Italy.

The French rider – a winner at Aragon in Spain – was 0.703s faster than Assen winner and Barni Racing's Eddie La Marra on the Ducati Panigale 1199R, whose team-mate Niccolo Canepa was third fastest this afternoon, 0.922s down on Barrier.

The first qualifying session was delayed slightly to allow for track conditions to improve following heavy rain.

Christoffer Bergman on the BWG Kawasaki ZX-10R was fourth fastest, followed by Jeremy Guarnoni (MRS Kawasaki ZX-10R) and Michele Magnoni (GM Racing BMW S1000-RR), who rounded out the top six.

Leandro Mercado was 32nd and last after crashing out unhurt at Turn 10, returning to the paddock after completing only two laps on his Pedercini Kawasaki ZX-10R.
